Work out the last details with Vivian.
Find a place to sleep.
Move your stuff.
Prepare the report of changes to be made in the sales department of the branch.
Think about what you want to do with your life.
Forget about Lia. But how can you forget her?
You will. Compartmentalise, compartmentalise. You can do it.
The rest will wait until I get better. Always adjust your list of goals if you need to. Life is not a smooth ride. There are always unforeseen events. Being flexible about your goals is the key. The important thing is to review this list regularly, otherwise you will be frustrated.
With a sad heart, I stand up. The boarding has started.

âChristele? Itâs me.â
âLia? You have a voice from beyond the grave. Whatâs going on?â
âIâm just...â
Iâm falling apart. But I was prepared for this call. I didnât want to tell her about Natacha... just to tell her the facts...
âLia... Sweetie... Whatâs going on? Lia...â
âIâm here... Iâm sorry, Christele. There was an incident last night...â
âAn incident? Lia, are you okay?â
âNot too well. Dispancho sent his men to me yesterday afternoon, to make it clear that I had no choice. I told them to go to hell... and then Natacha came in, she distracted them... She really distracted them, as if she knew... and they left. Then two men broke into my flat last night... and...â
âLia, breathe... Are you okay? Are you hurt? What happened to you?â
âThey hit me. They made me understand that if I didnât do it, theyâd go after my dad... Natacha came in and... Oh God... She must have learnt karate, because in the blink of an eye she knocked out the two guys... Then one of them came to his senses and shot at us... she had time to throw me to the ground and tip the sofa over... and... and...â
âBreathe... Breathe... Keep going.â
âThen she jumped to the side and shot the man. She had a gun, Christele... a gun... and she killed a man in my flat... Damn it... Who is she?â
âWhat happened next?â
âThe cops came, then the FBI took over. They questioned us for four hours and then we went home. Oh shit... Christele... why did I do that?â
âWhy did you do what?â
âI asked her to leave, not to come back. I told her itâs over. Oh, Christele... I...â
Iâm falling apart again.
âLia, where are you?â
âAt the hotel.â
âIâm on the first plane out,â said Christele.
And she hung up.

âMia cara?
âHi, Daddy.â
âAre you okay, mia cara?â
âNo, Dad, Iâm not okay. I donât need to tell you why.â
âMia cara? Donât tell me Dispancho sent his men?â
âYes, he did, Dad. They came yesterday afternoon and I told them to fuck off. And last night he sent two more to bully me, to make me understand that if I didnât comply he would come after you.â
âThat bastard! Mia cara, listen to me. You take your things and you get as far away as you can. You got it? Iâm gonna handle this my way.â
âNo, Dad. No. This is my mess to clean up.
